With the belief that by being Fussy we can create a better planet for everybody, London-based natural bodycare brand Fussy developed an innovative and sustainable refillable deodorant.

Available via a flexible postal subscription service, this deodorant is comprised of a reusable case, compostable refills and a separate dish to hold both elements.

In their mission to banish single-use plastic from your bathroom, Fussy teamed up with design studio Blond to design a product ecosystem that is made up of natural deodorant blocks that can be inserted into reusable cases made from recycled plastic.

Designed with the circular economy in mind

Inspired by the soft, rounded seaside pebble, Blond designed the deodorant’s case to promote longevity and reuse. Taking cues from pebbles, Blond created a naturally-ergonomic smooth shape that fits comfortably into your hand. Its tactile and aesthetically pleasing form make it attractive, easy and enjoyable to use.

Fussy is made from ocean-bound recycled plastic (OPD). This material was chosen for its durability and ease of recyclability. Blond intentionally chose a single material for the outer case and the component parts so that it can be recycled in full without needing to be disassembled.

The design utilises a stylish screw base actuator, with a top-loading mechanism to insert refills.

These plastic-free refills are made from sugarcane pulp which is a waste material of the sugar industry and are 100% compostable. The deodorant also comes with a matching “Deo Dish”, which is used to hold the deodorant case as well as store refills.

A defining feature of Fussy deodorant is that it lies flat instead of standing upright like most deodorants you find on supermarket shelves. This was made possible because of the products subscription model. The design and size of the case, its refills and “Deo Dish” are compact and can fit into standard letterbox-sized envelopes.

Fussy’s discrete natural form is designed to blend seamlessly with the user’s lifestyle,

whether it’s at home, in the pocket, at work or in a gym bag. It comes in a range of elegant colours such as Mint Green, Blush, Midnight, Burnt Orange and Ocean Blue. And like a pebble, Fussy has a beautiful matte surface on the outside and a gloss finish on the inside.

The flexible subscription service makes it easier to get regular refills of the natural deodorant blocks, which come in four refined scents like Night Tales, Wide Eyed, Wavy Days, Sun Drunk. Bare All, an unscented option is also available.

Each refill is full of clean ingredients like pure natural oils such as sunflower wax, coconut oil, shea butter, caprylic, tapioca, sodium bicarbonate, magnesium hydroxide and a probiotic called Lactobacillus giving you an impressive 24 hour protection, naturally. Fussy deodorant is free of aluminium, parabens, toxins, sulphates and it won't stain your clothes.
